Welcome to the Adventures of Erasmus Whitegaze
Welcome to the adventures of Erasmus Whitegaze, halfing wizard!
Look at his majesty! I made him on Heroforge! |
A little bit about me. I started playing solo roleplaying games at the beginning of August 2022, largely inspired by The Adventures of Konrad. I loved the idea of creating a story based on nothing but a character sheet, some random tables, and imagination, and so I thought I'd try it myself. At first, I thought I would do everything analog--I would buy paper books, print out PDFs, and compose my journal in notebooks. But I like to roleplay in comfort. I sit in my recliner and put a lap desk on my lap. It doesn't leave a lot of room for tons of books and binders. So instead I compromised with myself and used my iPad for books, but still keep the notebook journal. But then I found myself not writing as much as I wanted to because of hand fatigue--I just don't write longhand that much anymore. So I compromised again with myself and now do journaling after the fact on my 11 inch Chromebook--a somewhat bespoke computer just for this activity. I still use my paper character sheet and am rolling physical dice, so I'm not all digital yet!
Bookwise, my tables come from The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox (Volumes 1 & 2), The Tome of Adventure Design, and Tables for One. I also use the 5e core books.
I'm starting this blog because I thought some people might be interested in how this works out. I already host several podcasts, and am not inclined to sit in front of a camera and microphone more than I'm already doing, but writing about these adventures after the fact is a fun way to flex my creative writing muscles a little bit, and hopefully inspire other folks to try out solo roleplaying.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the adventures of Erasmus Whitegaze!
